the great outdoors!

For history lovers there is no shortage of archaeological sites, standing stones, cairns, burial mounds and so on, to say nothing of castles, industrial heritage sites, maritime history, and every kind of man-made structure you can think of!

In an area rightly famous for outstanding natural beauty it is no surprise to find that some of the best things to do involve getting closer to nature. The area is well known for fascinating geology, sites of special scientific interest, marine scenic areas and special areas of conservation.

Hill walking has always been popular, and less strenuous walking is available in many wooded paths and over open terrain. The Forestry Commission promote their forest walks, cycling trails and visitor facilities.

Cycling locally including mountain biking is featured on the the excellent Routes 2 Ride Scotland website including :
Oban-Glencruitten -Ganavan circuit
Oban - Dunbeg
Oban - Taynuilt via Glen Lonan
Pony trekking is always good fun. You should find plenty of opportunity for looking at wildlife in the hills and forests or by or in the sea. Boat trips and charters of all kinds including sea angling and scuba diving, wildlife watching trips and photographic expeditions amongst others are all available locally.

And of course in a coastal area, sailing and watersports are widely available, everything from kayaks to power boats, windsurfing to scuba diving, dinghies to yachts.

And if you need to find a quiet spot just to sit and enjoy the view, or have a picnic, and get way from it all, then we have plenty of that too!
